biography

Born in London, Ontario, Canada, I moved to and resided in Alberta, Canada until 1991. Living a year on the Pacific Ocean, Baja, Mexico teaching and painting fully instilled in me my love of water.  Since early 1993 to the present I live and work in Southern Texas.

"As children, my brothers and sisters did as millions of children in the world did, we were forming small boats out of leaves and sticks and sailing them down city curbs and country ditches filled with rain water to places wild and unknown."

Today, stimulating, mysterious and thought provoking water images from the past and present surface and resurface in the art work of many artists. Like them I am also drawn to this important element crucial to the ebb and flow of life ex: The Birth and Heart Series and Asian tsunami's "Japan in Crisis" and "Tsunami #1-3". Constantly struggling to capture this elusive yet fluid imagery, it challenges my artistic sensitivities to want to dive deeper into this serene and often turbulent side of nature.

Focusing on water as the main vehicle to express my creativity transports me back in time to a playful poem:

Rain
 by Shel Silverstein

I opened my eyes
And looked up at the rain,
And it dripped in my head
And flowed into my brain,
And all that I hear as I lie in my bed
Is the slishity-slosh of the rain in my head.

I step very softly,
I walk very slow,
I can't do a handstand--
I might overflow,
So pardon the wild crazy thing I just said--
I'm just not the same since there's rain in my head.

A big thank you to my husband, Gary for his computer expertise and my daughter, Shannyn Scarff de Kruyff, Principal, MediaWorks Corp. of Calgary for her guidance and professional approach in creating my website.
